Principal of Harcourt Brown & Carey Energy & Finance, has 30 years of experience in the clean energy industry working in the single-family / multifamily residential, government / institutional, and small / large commercial markets. Carey’s expertise includes the development of the primary and secondary market for financing residential energy efficiency (unsecured, first and second lien products) and the creation of unique financing for multifamily properties.
He also brings a background in increasing the uptake of bond and tax exempt lease financing for government and institutions. He has successfully developed innovative methods for financing energy efficiency for small and large commercial properties that address balance sheet limitations and split incentives among owners and tenants.
Prior to consulting, Carey developed and managed the single-family and multifamily energy financing programs at Fannie Mae and developed and managed the Energy Services (ESCo) business for Johnson Control’s Northeast Region. He designed demand-side management (DSM) programs with Honeywell/DMC for utility companies, implemented and managed two Federally-funded programs (Fuel Assistance and Weatherization) for three cities in the Boston area, and designed and installed energy efficiency projects in multifamily properties for Ecology Systems (mechanical engineering).
Carey holds a Masters Degree in Urban Affairs from Boston University, a certificate of Special Studies in Business Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelors Degree from Bridgewater State College.
